Federal Programs

Clean Energy Technology Tax Credit

  • The Canadian government has announced a new tax credit for investment in clean energy generation systems, including solar. It will refund businesses up to 30% of their capital investment.

Provincial Programs

Manitoba

Manitoba Solar Rebate Program (Commercial)

  • Established in April of 2022, the Manitoba Solar Rebate Program through Efficiency Manitoba offers rebates to Manitoba business owners who install grid-tied solar systems at a rate of $0.75/Watt with no system size cap.
  • To find out more about this rebate program or to apply, visit the Efficiency Manitoba website.

Manitoba Hydro’s Buy Back Program

  • Manitoba Hydro offers a net billing program. This means that, with a grid-tied solar system, you can sell excess electricity back to the grid and receive credit for it at a fixed rate.
  • A solar system that generates exactly the amount of electricity you use will provide the fastest return on your investment. Excess electricity from an oversized system can always be sold back to the grid, but not necessarily at an efficient rate of return. Powertec Solar can help you size your system properly for the fastest returns.
  • Both residential and commercial solar systems can be grid-tied with a bi-directional meter.
  • For more information visit Efficiency Manitoba's website.

Saskatchewan

Net Metering Program

  • Since November 2019, the SaskPower net metering program has had no generation cap, end date, or specified contract length.
  • The program allows for projects up to 100kW-DC generating capacity.
  • The SaskPower net metering program is available to all customers with eligible power generation systems, such as solar, including residential, farms, businesses, and other institutions.
  • For more information or to apply for SaskPower’s net metering program, visit the SaskPower website.

Saskatoon Light & Power

If you live in Saskatoon, you may be eligible for one of three available programs:

  • Net Metering Program
  • Allows eligible customers to generate renewable electricity (up to 100 kW) and send excess back to the grid for future credit.
  • Small Power Producers Program
  • Allows eligible customers to generate renewable electricity (up to 100 kW) and sell the excess to the SL&P power grid at a fixed rate.
  • Behind-the-Meter Program
  • Allows eligible customers to generate renewable electricity above 100 kW for their own use only.

Ontario

Hydro One’s Net Metering Program

  • With Hydro One’s net metering program, eligible customers can generate their own electricity and send the excess to Hydro One’s distribution system in return for credit that can be put toward future energy costs.
  • Systems that generate 10kW or less are subject to different regulations than systems that generate more than 10kW.
  • For more information about net metering in Ontario, visit Hydro One’s website.

Nunavut

Residential Grid-Tie Systems With QEC’s Net Metering Program

Nunavut home owners can take advantage of QEC’s residential net metering program to tie into the grid. This means if you’re producing more power then you’re using (typical in summer) you can feed power back to the grid and build up credits. These credits can then be used at a later point in time when you’re using more power than you’re producing (typical in winter).

Save 50% or up to $30,000 with Government Subsidies

The Government of Nunavut has announced plans for a rebate program to subsidize the cost of solar for both homes and cabins.

Commercial & Institutional Power Producer Program (CIPP)

CIPP allows existing commercial and institutional customers to generate power from renewable energy systems, including solar, and sell it back to QEC. Customers can choose to interconnect at either the same point that’s currently used to power their facility or a different location. For more information, visit the QEC CIPP page.

Independent Power Producer Program (IPP)

This program allows eligible power producers outside the utility to generate electrical power via alternative energy systems, including solar, and sell it directly to QEC. For more information, visit the QEC IPP page.
